WHY GO
Discover a country house preserved with its faded rooms and collected treasures, surrounded by walled gardens, ancient trees and parkland.
Calke Abbey offers an unusually intimate encounter with a country house. Grand rooms give way to worn surfaces and spaces preserved to reveal the estate’s decline, while the Harpur-Crewe family’s collections bring a rich layer of curiosity to the visit. Outside, the walled gardens, faded glasshouses and orangery continue the story. Ancient parkland and the Calke Explore trails invite you to stay longer, with natural play and woodland routes adding another way to enjoy this distinctive Derbyshire estate.
