WHY GO
Discover art-filled rooms, sweeping parkland and a richly varied garden at one of Derbyshire’s best-known country houses.
Chatsworth brings grand architecture, art and landscape together in the valley of the River Derwent. Inside, the visitor route leads through the Painted Hall, State Rooms and Sculpture Gallery, with works from the Devonshire Collections revealing the family’s changing tastes across generations. Outside, the 105-acre garden invites a slower pace among sculpted landscapes, glasshouses and the Rock Garden. Add a walk in the park or time at the farmyard and playground, and there is plenty to shape a day around your own interests.

Terrain & steps
Main visitor approaches are paved, with inclines towards the garden and stables; the stables courtyard includes cobbles. Garden routes vary and some sections have steps, slopes and uneven surfaces.
Accessibility
A lift serves the house visitor route; mobility scooters cannot be used inside, but manual and electric wheelchairs can. Reserve Blue Badge parking and loan equipment when booking. Accessible toilets are near the house, in the Carriage House and at the farmyard; a Changing Places facility is near the house entrance. No accessible toilets are located within the garden. Use the access map to select suitable garden routes.
Access & restrictions
House entry uses timed tickets; advance booking is recommended and includes parking for one vehicle per transaction. Parking alone is charged. Christmas car park access requires a pre-booked Christmas event, dining or market parking ticket. Dogs on leads may visit the park and garden; assistance dogs only in the house, farmyard and playground. Large bags, pushchairs and backpack baby carriers cannot enter the house; luggage storage is provided.
Facilities
Restaurants and cafés in the stables, gift shops, visitor toilets, accessible toilets and Changing Places; farmyard and adventure playground, subject to the ticket purchased. House multimedia guides and garden mobility equipment are available. The estate farm shop is in Pilsley, about 1½ miles from the house.
Seasonal considerations
The main attractions generally open from late March to early January; daily times and ticket availability vary. Christmas 2026 runs 7 November–3 January 2027 and requires advance booking. Some house rooms close for conservation. Garden light-trail installation is taking place through 6 November. The Cascade is awaiting restoration: water is not running down its steps and visitors must not walk on them. Other water features depend on water levels; high winds can restrict garden access.
