WHY GO
Glide above the Derwent Valley to a hilltop park of cavern tours, gardens, viewpoints and sweeping Matlock Bath scenery.
The visit begins with a cable car rising from Matlock Bath over the River Derwent to the Heights of Abraham. At the top, garden paths lead between viewpoints, exhibitions and play areas, with the story of the area’s mining heritage explored on guided cavern tours. Pause over the valley from a terrace, settle in for a meal with a view, or simply take time to enjoy the unusual perspective on this riverside town. With a return cable car ride included in admission, the journey is as memorable as the destination.

Approach
From the station car park, follow the signed dedicated riverside path about 400 m to the cable car base station. Ride the cable car to the hilltop estate; the listed walking time is for the car park to the base, not the cable car ride or walks around the summit.
Walking time from arrival (one way)
5 minutes (approximate)
Terrain & steps
Riverside access path to the base; the hilltop estate has steep natural gradients, paths and steps. Cavern tours include substantial steps and confined underground terrain.
Accessibility
The operator says the nearest car park is a 400 m riverside walk from the base; contact staff for an accessible drop-off. At the summit, steep natural slopes limit some routes, though all buildings except Victoria Prospect Tower have wheelchair access. The caverns are unsuitable for wheelchairs and people with walking difficulties or visual impairment; an alternative cave film is available in Masson Pavilion. The cave route involves about 175 steps. Consult the current accessibility map before booking.
Access & restrictions
Ticketed attraction; admission includes return cable car travel, guided cavern tours, exhibitions and estate facilities. Book online for lower published rates and select an arrival session. The attraction has no own car park; nearby council pay-and-display parking requires coins or PayByPhone and Blue Badge holders pay. Dogs are welcome on cable cars and estate grounds but cannot enter caverns or the restaurant. Matlock Bath station and bus stops are near the base.
Facilities
Two guided cavern tours, exhibitions, gardens, viewpoints and adventure play; Vista Restaurant, Terrace Café, seasonal snack outlets and picnic benches; visitor toilets and shops. Food outlet hours vary, and restaurant booking is advised.
Seasonal considerations
Regular 2026 season: daily 20 March–1 November, opening 10am and closing 4pm midweek or 5pm on weekends and school holidays; the homepage gives each day’s closing time. A separately ticketed Lights of Abraham event is advertised for 20 November–30 December 2026. Weather can affect cable car operation; check the live site before travelling.
